India : Location 

India is the largest country in terms of area and population in South Asia. It is surrounded by the ocean. India is strategically located in the Indian Ocean. It commands sea routes between Europe and Africa, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Oceania. It is because of this that India shares good trade relations with many countries since ancient times. The mainland of India ends from Kashmir in the north to Kanyakumari in the south and Arunachal Pradesh in the east to Gujarat in the west.

The southern part of the country is in the tropical zone, while the northern part is in the sub-tropical or warm temperate zone. This location is responsible for large variation in land forms, climate , soil types and natural vegetation in the country. From the values of longitudes, it is quite discernible that there is a variation of nearly 30 degrees.

India with its area of 3.28 million sq.km accounts for 2.4 percent of the world’s land surface area and stands as the seventh largest country in the world .

Includes island groups Andaman and Nicobar in the Bay of Bangle and Lakshadweep in the Arabian Sea.

Characterized by lofty mountains in the north, large rivers, green forests, and Marusthali.

Bound by the Himalayas, Hindu Kush and Suleiman ranges, Purvanchal hills, and the Indian Ocean.

Peninsular part extends towards the Indian Ocean, with coastline of 6,100 km in the mainland and 7,517 km in the entire coastline.
